Blog

The moment you purchase your first RV, you probably can't wait for the adventures you will be going on. But wait a minute because a few careless mistakes may cause damage to your RV and may force you to perform expensive repairs. Your first adventure should be close to home until you can learn how to safely operate your RV.

Traveling Too Far Too Soon

If you do not have time for a long RV trip, it is better to wait until you have more free time or to avoid going on a long trip. The faster that you are forced to travel, the more likely that you will make a mistake that can cause damage to your RV.

Not Paying Attention

Operating a large piece of machinery like this requires that you be more aware of your surroundings. A common mistake is a drive-off disaster. You are connected to a water, electricity and sewer hookups. Doing this will cause damage to your RV.

Not Learning How To Operate An RV

The best way to learn how to operate an RV is before you drive away, while in the safety of your own home. That way, if you must attach a hookup, you will know how to do this and will not be going without water. Read the operator's manual. While shopping for an RV, ask the salesman to show you how everything works. Visit a dump station with the sales representative to see how it works. Do not purchase the RV until you have been shown how to use your rig. This should be done before you sign the dotted line.

Forgetting To Check

Before driving in an RV, it is important to check and recheck. Make sure that all of your lights are working, that everything is properly stowed so that it doesn't fall out. Make sure that all cabinets are latched.

Not Being Aware Of How Large The RV Is

Always be aware of how large your RV is. A common accident involves a motorist driving under a bridge that is too low, leading to a collision and significant damage to the RV. A large RV can also make it more difficult to park or to turn around corners.

Make sure that you know a good RV repair technician before you go on your first trip. An inspection will reveal any potential problems and will reduce the risk that you will find yourself stranded by the road.
